The first #voiceover EVER was done by a woman in 1888!
AND it was done in New Jersey. Tee hee. Read it and weep, boys. ![]()
(07-14) 09:20 PDT Trenton, N.J. (AP) --
Scientists believe a 123-year-old recording made by Thomas Edison was the first attempt at a talking doll and possibly the oldest surviving commercial recording.
A woman's voice can be heard singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."
Edison hired the woman and made the recording in 1888 in West Orange, N.J., less than two years before he unsuccessfully put the doll on the market.
The recording showed up in Edison's Menlo Park museum collection in 1967. But the small piece of ring-shaped tin was so bent and damaged that scientists couldn't play.
A laboratory in California used advanced imaging technology in May to reproduce the audio on a computer.

Why celebrity voices are GOOD for VO
It's long been a debate in the voice over world, that the celebrities that are being hired to voice animation films take work away from the VO community. I've personally never thought this, but here are some great VO talent (Pat Fraley, Kevin Delaney, Kat Cressida, MJ Lallo, Crispin Freeman) that explain why.

Rescue efforts: hope in Japan
I clipped this from an Australian newspaper article....trying to find some good in this awful disaster.
Although Japan's soldiers have found death on a large scale, hope was pulled from the rubble yesterday.
A baby girl was found in Ishinomaki, a coastal town northeast of Sendai smashed by the tsunami.
Members of the Japanese Self Defence Force marvelled at the four-month-old's survival, wrapping her in a pink jacket and transporting her to safety.
Japan already committed 100,000 troops - about 40 percent of its armed forces - to spearhead the mammoth rescue and recovery effort, with hundreds of ships, aircraft and vehicles headed to the Pacific coastal area.
Read more at stephenbishop.amplify.comEmergency workers have so far rescued 15,000 survivors.

5000 Years Old Mummy Reconstructed
Many of you probably don't know this, but my second love is anthropology/paleontology/geology/archaeology. Basically, I Iove old stuff. I thought this was fascinating!
5,000 years later, the ice man gets a face
A hunter who died a violent death in the Italian Alps more than 5,000 years ago became a bit more recognizable to modern-day humans. "Oetzi," whose mummified remains were discovered in 1991, finally has a face.
He's not exactly Cary Grant, but let's give the guy a break. During his lifetime - he lived to 45 or 46 - Oetzi faced a world that was nasty and brutish. Whoever he was, Otezi died a violent death. A flint arrowhead had penetrated his skin and researchers say that the arrow cut a major blood vessel in the man's left arm. That led to heavy bleeding and possibly paralysis of the arm. The body also showed evidence of a deep hand wound as well as several abrasions and bruises.
When the mummified remains were discovered, the body was in relatively good shape - it had been preserved under ice for all that time - except for the face. The reconstruction work by a couple of Dutch artists made use of 3-D and forensics technology to carry out the project gives Oetzi an identity after all these years.
Read more at www.cbsnews.comThe new exhibit is going on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, Italy, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the mummy's discovery.

Attempting this for dinner tonight. Got the bok choy, ginger root, and garlic. Good thing I went food shopping before the ice storm hit! Quick and simple. I'm probably gonna add some chicken for protein, but it's probably pretty good with tofu also, for anyone looking for a great vegetarian dish.
